Where can I find a Kinder surprise in Bethesda, Maryland?

Sorry, you can't buy them around here, at least not legally. Kinder Surprise candies are prohibited in the U.S., because U.S. law does not allow non-food items to be contained inside "confections." In the case of Kinder Surprise, the small toys inside the egg are not safe for young children.

For a while, they were being imported (in violation of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act), but in 1997 there was a recall because of the potential choking hazard. The company has not attempted to import them since the recall.

Of course, some of the candy eggs come to this country inside of travelers' suitcases, and they are still sold legally in Canada. So, you may see some around, but they will not be sold over the counter at legitimate stores. There are other candy-egg items that are widely available, however. For example Cadbury Eggs can be bought at CVS and other stores. They have a filling inside the egg that looks like a real egg yolk, but they do not have toys or other inedible things.
