Does George Mason University Have A Good Reputation In The Washington DC Area?

I'd like to major in Finance or Accounting and was wondering how easy it is to get a good job if I'm against people from Georgetown and George Washington U

My background is Finance and Contracts/Acquisition. We live in Fairfax VA and though George Mason is not considered top public VA university in comparison to UVA, William & Mary, VA Tech and James Madison, a B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance from George Mason should be okay bec Accounting & Finance & MIS programs are most difficult in School of Business. FYI GMU's business program is unique in that it has 2.8 GPA requirement at end of sophomore year to continue on

Our oldest son did get BS Accounting from VA Tech.. we sent him to special IT transiton course at George Mason then put carrot in front of him and he passed VA CPA Exam. He's different though, high SAT 1270 out 1400 and was not happy he did not get into William & Mary. He continued on & also passed 2 software developer certification exams in Oracle and Sun Java and has spent last 6 years in Europe and is highly paid self-employed JAVA Guru at age 30 in London UK for French Investment Banker building software models for mathematicans.

Don't Worry about George Washington Univ <= way over priced and everyone I know who went to Georgetown University are lawyers in different league..

Hope the Above Info Helps and Best of Luck

Depends,
If you are from the metro area then GMU is a better bang for your buck than G-town and GWU. If you are from somewhere else (the northeastern US) and plan to go to school in the area and then leave the area to work perhaps a southern school is not the best place to educate yourself.

Considering the surrounding area's compulsory education is close to the bottom of the barrel, with DC being the worst in the nation could it's higher education be much better?

However if you are from the area and know ppl in the area it shouldn't matter where you go to school.

Yes George Mason has a good reputation in the DC area. It's not considered on the level of a Georgetown or George Washington however. The alumni base in DC is still strong enough and they are crazy about their basketball team to top it off.
