I am self-employed. Am I not entitled to the earned income credit even though I have 3 children? |
My local HR Block gave me the above info :( . So I did my own taxes, considered myself eligible with a $2000+ refund. Self-employment income counts the same as wages when determining whether you qualify for the credit. With 3 dependents you will likely qualify if the net income from your business is less than $37,783 ($39,783 if married). and your investment income is less than $2,900. Being self-employed does not affect whether you can receive EIC. The answer to your question is based entirely upon your adjusted gross income (AGI) and deductions. Some people qualify and others do not, it depends on your income, not just the fact that you have children. Self employment income is also earned income like wages. You should get child tax credit if you are otherwise eligible. |
