What is your ratio of gross income to taxes owed for $2007?

I just added up all income tax liability divided it by gross income and came up with 21.66%. What is yours? How do you feel about it? Would you be willing to pay more? Do you feel that you receive good value for your dollar? What is your perception of the amount paid by US taxpayers compared with taxpayers in other countries? (This question does not take into account property and sales tax paid which may very by region.)

Because I had to do a report, the US tends to be one of the countries that taxes its citizens the least.
I don't have my percentage in front of me but its somewhere around 15 -20%.
I am not thrilled with it because I feel the government gives too much of my money for "feel good" things that the government really shouldn't be paying for. I love museums as much as the next person - - but I'd rather have more of my taxes back in my own pocket and be able to decide which museums I want to support. Same thing with some of the other 'arts' programs - - its not that I don't agree with them, but I don't feel they are necessary for the government to be paying for.
We need military, police, schools, health departments, welfare, etc. But beyond the basic needs of the citizens, the government gives out alot of our tax dollars to other stuff, stuff that should be funded by the public - - and if the public had more money in their pockets they might be a little more willing to donate to those things they believe in and support.

I assume you mean the ratio of taxes to gross income, not vice versa. Mine is 7.4%. If you toss in sales and property tax, it goes up to 16%.

i believe it is around 20% generaly speaking
