Tax books vs Tax software?

My wife and I made about 80,000 this last year. We own a house that we rent, have a couple IRA's, and moved across the country.
I've always done my taxes w/ software. Should I get a book as well to try and claim more or does the software usually cover all the bases.
I don't want to go to an actual HR block b/c I think they charge about $75 per w-2 and then there is more paperwork they charge for to put it through the same computer program that I'm going to at home.
Thanks

You should try getting one of the tax books sold in bookstores (no, I won't mention the names since I'm not paid to endorse them).

The books are the "popular" ones that cost about $20-30 and usually posted right in front of the business stack or even the main entrance during tax season!

Your tax situation may seem a bit more complicated but the software is still fine and the book will help you with other issues such as rental income and moving expenses and any other issues.

If it does get more complicated, you should seek the advice from a local tax professional.

I've used TurboTax for years, and the online version is my new favorite. I can go back and find info anytime since it's online, and yes its EXTREMELY secure.

The questions they ask minimize the need for additional books and they provide links to IRS publications if you need clarification on a topic.

Good Luck and HNY

Tax software is easy to use but if you read the book you will have a better idea of what you are doing. Sometimes the instructions seem ambiguous and you have to read them several times.

you should be ok with the software. if you have done your taxes for years you at least have the basics.

besides, HR block and the rest do not really guarantee they will do it right. In the end they say YOU are responsible for the return. So if anybody is going to make a mistake, better you so you can learn and also save on the fee they charge for lousey work.
