What is the 1040A form when filing your taxes? Is it true you can't file this until Feb.?

What is the 1040A form when filing your taxes? Is it true you can't file this until Feb.?

Congress screwed around with tax law until 12/20. The IRS programmers are frantically recoding their systems to account for the changes. (So are the programmers at the companies that sell software to do your taxes.) They are not done coding.

So the schedule announced so far is as follows.

People who *don't* use the following 5 forms can file 1/15.
1040A SCHEDULE 2 (Child Care)
Form 8863, Education Credits
Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits
Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit
Form 8859, District of Columbia 1st-Time Homebuyer Credit

People who *do* use the forms must wait until 2/11 to efile. (Returns that are mailed in will wait until then to be processed.)

If you are planning to only claim child care, you could file a 1040 with the 1040 version of the form (2441 is not on the list) and still file in January.

Well you need a W2 to file your taxes and those don't usually come until Feb.

1040A is the standard tax return form for single or married people. However,if you are single, have no children, and only qualify for the standard deduction,1040EZ is the shortest and simplest from to use.You can file as early as Jan.1st if you already have your W-2's.Not for sure if E-file is available on the 1st, but I think it is.

The 1040A form is a form you can use if you don't itemize or have income of some particular types - it's what many people use if they have dependents so can't file a 1040EZ, but their income is pretty straightforward. If you claim dependent care expenses, you won't be able to file a 1040A until 2/11 - if you don't have dependent care expenses, you can file it as soon as you have all of your paperwork. And if you do have those expenses to claim, you can get around the delay by filing on a form 1040 for this year.

Once you have a your w-2's, 1099 etc you can file your return, it doesn't mean IRS will start processing it right away. IRS when given the go ahead will start processing return by IRS received date.
