Income tax with last check stub?

someone told me i can take my last paycheck stub of the year and get my income tax. i just bought a new car and having mayjor car problems so i really need the money. is there a way u can do that and where do i go?

You can take it to some H&R block branches or Jackson Hewitt firms this last one is the one that is most likely to help you. Typically people don't like to file with the last paystub because there are other forms that need to be filled out so there is more work...but it CAN be done. You can already get an idea of how much you're getting back by going to the H&R tax estimator page, here you'll need the numbers on your year to date column from your last pay stub.

No. You need your W-2s to file.

The firms that offered loans based on the paycheck stub aren't offering them this year due to massive losses when people failed to pay them back.

Sorry but that is not possible. You can't e-file a legal return yourself without your W-2 in hand and tax preparers are barred by law from doing so.

The earliest that you can e-file will be around the middle of January. I've heard dates ranging from Jan 11th to the 15th though there is nothing on the IRS website confirming that yet.

Once you have actually e-filed AND your return has been accepted by the IRS you MIGHT be able to get a "rapid refund" loan through a bank that is partnered with the tax prep firm. Be aware that the fees and charges for that are extremely high, I've seen APRs as high as 2,533%. That's about what some loan sharks charge! At best that "loan" will get you your money a week or so faster than just having it deposited directly to your bank account by the IRS.

The local H&R Block near me is advertising that you do not have to wait on your W-2. Call your local office and see if they can help you.

I heard about that,my sister was tellin me about it,i gotta get more info from her though

I agree with most of the people here about filing your tax return. YOu need to wait until you get your W-2's.

If you have a "new" car, then isn't it covered under the warranty?

Yes it's simply true that you can file without W2(s). I have been doing it for years.
The quotes about January 15th and waiting and all of that is fine but lets 'break it down'. Sometimes employers act like they dont want to send you one (especially if you just moved). An employer of mine(last year) told me i'd have to come back to thier office to fill out papers again and yadda,yadda,... / Anyway, now i do my own taxes [it is extremely easy by the way] so i dont have to bother with running into places that have a problem with using check stubs.
Just go to a place like your 'state revenue' place (or wherever you get your tax papers) and get that replacement form, read the book on how-to, fill it out, mail it.
BAMN.

Yes. You can file with your paycheck stub, but no RALs (Refund Anticipation Loans) before IRS filings are available this year. So you will have to wait until the IRS begins accepting filings (c. 1/15/08) before you can get your money. If you file Rapid you may be able to get your money in an average of 48 hours from the date your return is filed with the IRS. The fees are usually an average of about $180.00 (which is taken out of your return)....Hey, we have to pay for convenience :o)
