Is it true that we don't need to pay Federal tax ; and federal tax is not constitutional? i just saw Zeitgeist

is the movie for real?

The United States Constitution (The ultimate source!)
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 1:
http://www.law.emory.edu/law-library/res...

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Amendment XVI: Income tax.

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

We are required to pay federal tax. Federal tax is Constitutional. I did not see the movie, so I do not know if the movie is real. If it said "that we don't need to pay Federal tax ; and federal tax is not constitutional", then it is not for real.

not true at all - just ask Wesley Snipes and others that have refused to pay taxes. They end up with hefty fines, their pay garnished and possibly even jail time.

just pay your taxes, after all one day you may want to draw Medicaid or Social Security

by the way - movies are MAKE BELIEVE for the most part

Not only can you elect not to pay taxes, but the Government Will provide you with FREE room and board.

Federal income tax laws were adopted in 1913 as a constitutional amendment. The constitution is amended by the Congress and Senate and signed by the President. If a person doesn't pay taxes they can be charged with tax evasion.

Please forget that pile of horse dung! It has a minimalist value as a satirical comedy but is no more factual than The Wizard of Oz.

The government has the right to lay taxes of ANY type according to Article 1, Section 8 of The Constitution. It is left entirely up to Congress as to what to tax and how to tax it by passing the tax laws. Income taxes have ALWAYS been legal according to Article 1, Section 8.

Due to a court case in the late 1800s, income taxes were effectively declared unconstitutional. The court ruled that they were direct levies and therefore were subject to apportionment among the several states. That would be childs' play today in the modern computer age but was impossible back then.

Owing to the court treatment of income taxes, Congress passed, and more than the required number of states ratified, the 16th Amendment to The Constitution that simply states that the government may tax incomes without apportionment or enumeration. A few Tax Kooks have tried to challenge that unsuccessfully but the courts came down solidly on the side of the government's assertion that the amendment was properly ratified.

One last observation. The income tax as we know it has been around in one form or another since 1913, about 94 years. Does anyone honestly believe that the government could actually levy an illegal tax for that long without the courts stepping in and stopping them?

no...you don't have to pay federal taxes. just be prepared to PAY the consequences. if we didn't pay, who would support all of the non-working losers that ride the system?????

I have not seen the movie but yes you do have to pay your taxes that is one of price we pay for living in this great land.If you don't pay you can go to jail.
