Husband deserted me in Sept 07. How do I do the taxes?

Husband left to get inheritance money from his mother's death. I don't know how much or even if he got nothing. I don't know his exact address. He's been gone from me 111 days officially. Married 26 yrs. Any advice on what I can do?

I was a homemaker the entire time up to his departure. I know the info on his mother's trailer and can start there to see if it sold. Any other money, I don't know where to look.

you have a few options: the easiest is to just file MFS and only include your income and be sure to do them asap if you have dependents that he might claim.

another option is to see a lawyer so you can get a divorce and your half of the inheritance.

many lawyers will work and get paid out of what they collect for you. also dont pay the standard 33 to 40% they charge. i usually get 20% when working with attorneys.

married filing separately?? i would talk to an accountant or a lawyer about this one...

Sad I would talk to an Attorney.

File a missing persons with the Police. Do you at least know the town or city? he might have gotten alot and left you. I'd track him down.

You arent going to be entitled to any of that money, unless you have been unemployed and relying on him for financial support for the part of the year he was there. Other than that, there probably isnt anything you can do. If you are still married when he inherets any money, you are entitled to half, because you are still married. Technically.

DEAR, YOU NEED TO CONSULT AN ACCOUNTANT...TELL HIM YOU ARE OVER TAXED, HE WILL DO WHAT HE CAN TO PREVENT AN UNPLEASANT QUESTIONING YOU ARE BOUND TO HAVE WITH THE IRS REGARDING YOUR HUSBAND...YOU MAY OWE MONEY...SO GET A LAWYER TOO.....YA NEE A ACCOUNTANT I SAY...GO TO H AND R BLOCK FOR QUALITY ASSISTENCE PLEASE,

You file as "Married filing separately" and report only the income you earned.
AND file as early as possible.
Where ever he is if he should try to claim you as a dependent (Married filing jointly) his return should get kicked back if your return processed first..

I've been married 25 years and this is what I found out, go to lawyer file for divorce and take his ss# the lawyer will research how much he got and you will get half of it and any other access and half of his 401k and any other retirement, get alimony as well since he left you high and dry without any support, whether you are working or not your entitled to support and to half of everything, he thought if he left you, you wouldn't get any of the money he'll find out differently........As far as filing the taxes you will file married but filing separate.......
