I'm entitled to the EIC,how much will I get back for claiming my 1 year old god son.?

I also earned under 18,000 dollars last year

If you don't take care of him financially, I wouldn't suggest it. What if they try to audit you, you would be in big trouble then.

about....and that's only a guess....$3000.00

you can only claim him if you support him

The EIC is $5k so you'll get atleast that much.

About $17 guhfren. Fight da man!

Yeah that sounds about right $3,000 not including what the Fed's took from you during the year.
but
If you have one more in your house, that up's the EIC.

dude isnt the eic for couples with both working you dont need kids to claim that also take your completed forms to irs to be checked for free but heres what ido for the last three years i go to the irs sites and use the jump to the free tax service for folks under 50 thousand online and they also do the state but for that one using the printout from the website i call that one in to the state tax dept also to claim a dependant they have to live with you for most of the year or you have to provide more that 60% of their support and dogs and cats are excluded

Since when is a Godchild an asset? Are you raising him? If not, forget it.

Maybe nothing. Unless you can claim him as a Qualifying Child you are not eligible for the EIC. And unless he is your child, grandchild, or the child of one of your siblings you probably can't claim him as a Qualifying Child unless he was placed with you via adoption or as a foster child through an approved agency.

See IRS Pub 501 for a discussion on claiming exemptions for dependents and IRS Pub 596 for the rules on the EIC. You can get copies from the IRS website.

A godson is not a qualifying child for EIC unless he has a close blood relationship to you or is placed with you as a foster child by an authorized placement agency, or you have legally adopted him.
