Would you qualify for earned income credit if you did not work that year?

Would you qualify for earned income credit if you did not work that year?

"Earned Income Credit" is based on wages. The word "earned" means wages received for work and services. So if you did not work, you will not get any Earned Income Credit.

don't think so

No, it's' called the EARNED income credit because that's what it's based on.

NO YOU WOULDNT QUALIFY....BUT NOW SAY YOU WERE SELF EMPLOYED AND DEALT ONLY IN CASH....YOU MADE $17,000 OR SO AND WANTED TO FILE TAXES ON IT........THEY WOULD TAKE OUT SOCIAL SECURITY AND GIVE YOU THE REST OF YOUR EARNED INCOME CREDIT REBATE......YOU CAN CLAIM AS MANY KIDS AS YOU WANT BUT I THINK THE CREDIT IS ONLY GOOD FOR TWO OF THEM...................BUT WITH 2 KIDS AND 17K SHOWING...AFTER YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY YOU WHOULD GET AROUND $4,000 REFUND......

yes - i once collected $150 "earned income" for earning zero dollars. Isn't that ironic?
