Are you required to file state AND federal taxs? |
I'm thinking of doing my own taxes with turbotax. I notice that it is free for federal, but it says additional for state. Whats the difference? And are you required to do both. I noticed on my check that their is only federal withholding, so where do is the state income tax withheld. I hope this question makes sense, because I am a bit confused. If you live in Texas, you don't need a state return because the state of Texas doesn't have an income tax. yes you have to file state and federal tax The first poster is accurate - you need to find out if your state collects income tax. If you live in a state that has income taxes, you are required to file. I have used turbo tax for years and it is idiot proof, I buy the one that includes the state taxes. It depends entirely on what state you live in - some states do not have a state personal income tax...the list of states with no personal income tax is as follows: |
