What happens if I fill out the Form 1040X and get the amount that they owe me wrong? |
Do I then have to re-file a 1040X to correct the 1040X or will they adjust the amount accordingly? Frequently, when you receive a CP2000, they don't want you to file a 1040X. They just want you to resppond to the CP2000. Read what they want you to do, and do it, or call them if it is unclear what they want you to do. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or the National Taxpayer Advocate 877-777-4778 If you make a math error, they'll probably just adjust it - if it's an error of content, you'd have to redo it. |
