Why are people up in arms about the removal of the UK 10p tax band?

In 1988 (under Thatcher - useless cow) I was earning like 拢3.50 an hour - as a fully skilled electrician - that equated to 拢140/wk. I got no benefits and didn't expect any either. Point is, if I wanted more money, I just did some OVERTIME and worked a little harder. I didn't go to some benefits office with my cap in 'and filling all the right forms in and ticking the right boxes. Why don't people just work a little harder rather than SPONGING off the social all the bluddy time? AND, when people breed like bluddy rabbits, why do they expect me - the taxpayer to pay for all their kids - DON'T THEY THINK THAT THEY HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO ONLY HAVE KIDS IF THEY CAN AFFORD THEM?

RANT OVER -
Nanoo Nanoo

removing the 10p tax band means people like myself working 40 hours a week for minimum wage with no dependent children will pay more tax so that richer people can pay less. i fail to see what that has to do with sponging.
should i accept this tax rise and work maybe 45 hours a week to compensate? i really do not see what you are saying. benefit scroungers are not affected by the tax increase. hard working low earners are the ones that will suffer. and you cant blame margaret thatcher for that

What's that got to do with the 10p tax!? Mr tax man gets his share of any overtime you work anyway. I know what you mean about the kids thing though, people really need to understand taking responsibility for themselves before bringing kids into the world.

Apparently, the most anyone is losing is 拢200 a year. That's 拢4 a week.! You're exactly right. They need to balance that against all the benefits brought about by this government. Of course they are not perfect. But they are tons better than the Tories. I mean 拢4 a week!!! I am on benefits, unfortunately, for the time being. It won't be for long but I would happily give up 拢4 a week, knowing that I would be able to get a minimum wage (if I wasn't skilled). I could get a factory job and receive 拢5.35 (approx.?) That's worth about ten times what they get in some Countries. And I don't mean third world countries.
(please correct me if I'm wrong - those from ex-Eastern bloc, etc). The people complaining are those who are low earners - those who are most at risk of needing to claim various benefits. Those benefits are far better than they used to be. If you can't afford training - you can get it free.
Its not great - but it ain't that bad.
Instead of scrapping it, they should make up the difference for those affected
