There is lots of talk atm about the abolition of the 10p tax rate. What actually is the 10p tax rate? Up until the beginning of April the first 拢2300 of tax (for everybody)was at 10% that has been abolished and you now pay 20% The 10% tax rate, or lower rate band, was introduced some years ago to help the lower paid, and give the unemployed more incentive to work. One of Gordon Brown's last acts as Chancellor of the Exchequer was to abolish it. From 6th April, everyone will start paying tax at 20%. Last year the start rate was 10%, and went up to 22%. |
