Self Assessment query?

My husband is a self-employed builder. Can I claim for storing all his business paperwork, tools, etc at home, as a tax expense? What about heating and lighting?

He can include a reasonable charge for use of domestic property in his accounts.
It can be a proprtion of the total running costs, but for small businesses like his it's best to use a weekly allowance calculation 拢8 pw x 52 weeks = 拢416.(say)

If you have an expense related to a business, you can usually deduct it. You'll probably do well to use review the IRS guidelines about deducting business expenses.
