Whats the difference between child benefit and child tax?

Everybody is entitilrd to child benifit, Child tax credits are dependent on how much you earn and other factors! The link below tells you if you are entitled to tax credits

http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov....

Tax Credits are a meants tested benefit, this means it is based on your income, the amount and ages of your children, child care costs that you pay and any other circumstances, because of this the award amount is variable depending on the circumstances of your family, and changes can also affect the amount you get, basically it is an income top up for people with children.

Child benefit is a fixed benefit and is not means tested, so anyone with children can claim it, it is a set higher rate for the first child and then a lower rate for every child after that.

Firstly, mention that these are UK welfare benefits, so no other nations need answer!

And its Child tax CREDIT.

Firstly child benefit is universal, paid mostly to mothers. ALL families get it, regardless of their financial status, everyone from a princess to a highrise chavette, and you get it for every child under 16, or under 19 and in college.

Child Tax Credit is based upon income in working familes. The lower your wage, the more child tax credit you get (provided you have at least one child). It is not universal. If your income exceeds the prescribed amount, you are not entitled to it.

I am presuming you mean Child tax credit....Chid benefit is available to anyone with children and is automatically paid to you as soon as you have children. Child tax credit is an amount paid to you (usually the mother) when your family income is below a certain amount. It is calculated on your and your partners combined earnings, the number of children you have and has to be applied for.
