Yes, there is a personal allowance for each tax year 6th April to 5th April. It usually gets uprated yearly, rates announced in November mini budget. 07/08 拢5225, 08/09 %拢5435

Yes you get a personal allowance for each tax year starting on 5th April each year. The basic personal allowance for year from 5 april 2008 is 拢5,435.
