P60, p45 and claiming back tax?

im a student so want to claim back the tax i payed while working summer then christmas (i didnt earn over the taxable tariff thing).
do i get a p60 if i am no longer working?
i have my p45 from working temporarily at christmas but it does not show the tax a paid previously and ive lost my earlier p45.

No, you will not get a form P60 if you were not in employment as at 05/04/08. You would have been on a week/month 1 code number at Christmas, so P45 would not show previous details, even if with same employer.
I would check with tax office to see if they hold details of your previous form P45. If so, it's OK. If not, employer can't issue duplicate, but ask for a signed letter, on headed notepaper, showing pay and tax details. Later in the year, the information will come through employer's return, but that could take months. You will also need to submit an employment history from 06/04/07 to 05/04/08, including when you were only in full-time education. Easiest way is to download form P91 from hmrc/p91, and complete.
If, as a student, you only work at vacation time, ask employer for form P38S. Sign that, and tax won't be deducted.

No I dont think you will get a P60 because the P45 should have all the years earnings on it.

If you go on www.hmrc.gov.uk you may be able to get information from there, if not they should have a number to call.

just ring your local tax office , it should be in the book, and they will send you a form. You can also claim back overpayments for previous years.
