Payrise or simply Inflation?

I received a 3% 'payrise' last year and also another 3% 'payrise' this year. It adds approximately 拢600 to my salary - last year and this year. My question is that is this actually a payrise or is my company legally obliged to increase my pay each year due to inflation? Reason i ask is they claim its a performance related pay and i seriously doubt that. I can negotiate the % and need some ammunition. Quick...i got till 13:00

thanks

As already mentioned, no company is obligated to provide you an increase on your salary. In fact, provided the company can justify it, they can actually decrease your salary should it be deemed necessary.

Best advice would be to write up your own performance review and ask to have a word with your manager. Use your self-performance review to negotiate a higher pay band, or to get your manager to negotiate for you. It worked for me.

Lucky you, there is no legal obligation for employers to give you a 3% payrise each year in line with inflation, I haven't had a payrise in 3 years and even then when I got my rise it was because I took on extra responsibilities.
My rent and bills go up each year but my wages don't, how are people suposed to live?

Anyway, how can it be performance related pay, are they doing a yearly apprasial with you?

any company is not legally obliged to give you a pay rise but they cannot let your wage drop below the minimum wage.
it sound to me like its just a keep pace rise if you know what i mean rather than a rise in actual pay.

More and more companies and the public sector are doing away with the 'annual pay rise' and going for the '3 year deal'
Not having a mortgage (thank f*ck) , my council rent goes up by an average of 5% a year , just over my pay rise...
We will all feel squeezed soon and we will all have to pull our belts in and do away with frivilous and trivial buying.
No frivilous holidays this year... just a day here and a day there!. The cost of road fuel is a 'stonking' huge detriment out of my pay packet.
