Can I claim disability benefit if I have substantial personal savings? |
P.S. Anyone who wants to rant is quite welcome but I've worked all my life and never claimed a penny. Anyway, it's a hypothetical question. if it's disability living allowance then yes you can Karen is wrong!!!! - yes you may claim Disability Living Allowance as a benefit which is NOT means tested. Furthermore, as you indicate in your question, since you have 'worked' for many years then you should also consider making a claim for Incapacity Benefit too. This is also NOT means tested, but is based on your National Insurance contribution record. If you have 52 x the lower earnings limit National Insurance (paid) contributions in the two full tax years prior to the year of claim (which is a calendar year) then you ARE entitled to Incapacity Benefit now. You will need the assistance and support of your GP as your will need a MED4 certificate to 'prove' your incapacity for work. Look on the Citizens Advice website (as below) to see the conditions of entitlement to disability benefits. I don't think you will be eligble, if you have savings over 拢7K. |
