Told my boss ive been overpaid?

i realised on my wage slip that i was over paid by 拢580 pounds and told my boss and has told head office cos of the amount of tax and ni they have took of me can i arrange to pay back in installments otherwise im gonna struggle and if paid back in one go which i cant im left with less than i should anyway

THIS IS THE ONLY OVERPAYMENT THEY HAVE MADE AND I HAVE REPORTED STRAIGHT AWAY

You must pay it back in reasonable installments (ie not 拢5 a month). They can not take back so much that you are left with an amount too low to live on.
I used to work in a wages office.

get that money back! :]

HEY
good thing ur honest .
i was overpaid once and told em too - i dunno wat u should do but try ringin citezens advice

Typical example of being screwed for doing the right thing, I would tell them that your direct debits etc have taken a chunk of the money but your happy to repay it, due to your honesty I dont think they could argue a few smaller repayments.

i really do hope that is not a white collar lie. Because if it is...

they should reissue your payslip and only the overpayment will be taken back. the tax and ni will be adjusted in your pay so you only pay the nett difference back.

ie normal payslip 拢1500 less tax & ni, you get 拢1150. This pay slip 拢2080 less tax & ni, you get 拢1550. When they give you a new payslip @ 拢1150 they'll only ask you for 拢400 back, the difference between the bottom lines.

As it's their mistake they can't take all the money back in one go....they should deduct it from your wages in installments. Why not ring head office yourself and speak to the wages department, nothing to lose really.

how did you NOT notice you were overpaid the first paycheck it happened???

It is possible to pay it back in installments - BUT if they have only made one overpayment and you knew right away, surely you still have the extra money to give back right away? They will work it out so that the tax and NI are corrected, and you will end up with exactly the right amount of money.
