Bailiff question?

I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to this. Once bailiffs have taken ur possessions and they ask you to pay the amount within a certain amount of days and you cannot afford the whole amount, can you offer them half and the other half in installments or do you have to pay the full amount within the time they give you?

Good question.
The answer is...there is no hard and fast rules. The bailiffs make up there own rules. If they think the deal will ultimately benefit themselves they will play ball.
I feel that its time for proper government legislation on the use of bailiffs. Its a huge grey area and the police often side with the bailiffs because they are ignorant of the law regarding who can take your goods.Generally speaking ,bailiff companies are just staffed by out of work doormen, the letters they send are worded to appear as though they are doing he bidding of the courts.
Unfortunately, once they have their grubby hands on your goods, then possesion is 9/10ths of the law and that is the pinciple upon which they work.

You have to do as they ask. You can however ask that terms are changed.

Selling your stuff is a hassle. If you can pay half, they like you and you can pay the rest quickly (read: 1 month max) then they will play ball other than that you are stuffed.

Best ask the citizens advice bureau.
