Council tax as a PhD student? |
Hi Indeed you will not have to pay council tax. It will tax your patience and tax your soul though. It's a ghastly thing. Think carefully about this before you begin. i thought it was only income-tax that was free. You will still have to pay other taxes, like VAT and such. The jobcentre staff will know for sure. you get a 25% discount on council tax. you will also have to pay road tax (if you drive) and VAT. As long as the univeristy issue you with a student certificate for Council Tax to certify you as a F/T studentthen you will be able to claim the applicable studetnt disregard or exemption - without the certificate most councils wont accept you as a student. |
