How to get maximum benefit from the hefty UK council taxes ?

I pay 拢170 a month by direct debit - and I honestly think that I am not getting any value. Two services that I use is waste collection and the local library they run - 拢170 a month, isn't that ridiculous for that ?

Please, anyone advice me how to make the council spend some money back or make them do some extra service that I'm entitled to...I'm thinking of demanding it from them if they are keeping quite.

Thanks for your answers I'm talking about getting "personal service" (e.g waste collection from my back garden, library books) not about public services like police, fire or streetlights where everyone gets that irrespective of a council tax payer.

And the Police, and the Fire and Rescue Services And street lights, and roads (which a partly paid for from Council Tax and partly through the Road Fund Licence) and footpaths and the local park and having the grass cut in your street. And educating our young so that they can pay taxes to fund our retirement.

You might have well asked "What has the council ever done for us?"

What about the emergency services and our free NHS service? Despite our rediculously high taxes, we at least get great healthcare out of it.

Cost of petrol, however - now that really grinds my gears. Grrr

Find a spot of uneven pavement and fall over. Make sure lots of people see and try and hurt your back. Its notoriously hard to diagnose a bad back so just lay it on thick and you should get a fair bit of compo. You might also get them to spend out on pavement repair. It sounds madbut lots of people are doing it.

You could have kids and get the Council to pay for their education. You could have the benefit of a police force and a fire brigade - these are both financed out of your Council taxes. You could get old - no sorry, with so many people whinging about Council Taxes being so high, they've had to cut back on services to the elderly.

the above answer is why the moral ones of us end up paying out more

I only pay 拢81.12 a month!
Maybe if you wanna pay less, move to a cheaper banded house! :)
It says on your bill how they use your money!

Wish I was only paying 拢170, it's 拢250 for me (in band E so not extravagant).

jack your job in go on the scrounge and you'll get it paid for you.
