How do I know what my UK tax office is?

I want to ask for a tax return but I need my tax reference, and this is provided by the tax office. The HMRC website is unorganised and completely unclear, so I'm asking for your help and knowledge guys! =)

It'll be on your P60

Ring your local tax office and ask them to tell you where it is.

go to this site http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/contactus/helplin... and use the a-z to find out. dont look for your home town but your employers head offices town and that will be your tax office

It normally goes according to your postcode. If you phone HM Revenue and Customs (0845 302 1414) and tell them your postcode they should give you your tax office.

Your tax reference should be linked to your NI number, so if you quote that too they may be able to let you know straight away

If you don't have a UTR, just ask your employer for a reference number.
Failing that, phone your local HMRC offcie, give them your National Insurance Number and they'll tell you who you are.

michael o almost had it, everything expect that the link takes you to general enquiry helpdesks, the link below gives you the a - z.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/local/individuals...

if you ring the 0845 number given earlier, the info on the above link is what they use to find you office, so you may as well look yourself

Depends whether you are employed or self-employed. If you are employed, your National Insurance number is your reference. If self-employed, the tax office may or may not be able to trace from your National Insurance number, and you should have a 10 digit unique reference number.
Why do you want a Tax Return? Have you ever had one before? The Revenue have cut the circumstances for issuing these forms, and unless you come within the self-assessment criteria, a form will not be issued. If, for example, you want to claim a repayment, a R40 may be more appropriate. To come within the criteria, you have to be self-employed, receive rental income or large amounts of untaxed interest, have foreign income, or be a company director. Those are the main ones, but there are a few other factors which may cause one to be issued. If you are new to one of these categories, you will need to register with your local tax office, who will arrange for a record to be set up for you.
The Tax Returns are issued on 6th April each year, apart from the odd back years' one where information has come late to the Revenue.
I am sorry this is a bit vague. To be able to give you precise information, I would need to know more about you.

Your employer will be able to tell you. It may also be on your payslip.
