If get a book printed in the far east, do I need to pay a duty to import the copies into the UK?

And if so, how much?

hi there,

the duty on books is very low if anything at all, i very often see a lot of books duty free, and no quite as often i see books that are VAT free also. ring 01702366077 (tariff classification helpline) for a customs tax classification on the book, they'll tell you what the duty rate is.

p.s, if the book itself is worth less than 拢18, make sure the sender marks it as such since packages where the item is worth less than 拢18 no taxes are due at all, regardless of the rate of duty the item would normally attract.

Yes, it would be a percentage of the printing price.

I used to work for Customs in the United States. Your best bet is to contact a customs broker or the Her Majesty's Tax and excise in the Revenue department.

In the US, books are free of duty. There I have no idea.
