What is tax code 522lx i know what the l is but not the x ?? can any one help?

my last job has this coding one my payslip ... can any one help 522LX????

There are two types of ways in which a tax code can operate. One is cumulative and the other is known as week 1/month 1. If a tax code reads, for instance 522L then it would be cumulative. If it says 522L X then the 'X' denotes that it is week 1/month 1. The difference between cumulative and week 1/month 1 is that a cumulative tax code will look at all your earnings and tax that you have earned or paid so far in that tax year when you income tax is calculated but a week 1/month 1 code doesn't. So a cumulative code is essentialy fairer. 522L X is very commonly a temporary code that is applied before a cumulative code is issued by your tax office. Ever heard of emergency tax? This is usually the code that'll be be used in these circumstances. If you find an 'X' after your code then it's worth doing a couple of things. Firstly, look to see if you've got a P45 knocking about somewhere and, secondly, call your local tax office and explain that you are currently on a week 1 / month 1 tax code and you want to know how you go about getting a cumulative code.

Hamlet is right. Have you just changed jobs? If that is so, some of your employment history is missing from the system.
If you have been with your employer for some time, a week/month 1 tax code would only be used where your code number was reduced for some reason. Did you have a higher code number before? The only other explanation I can think of could be that for some reason the tax office needs to stop your employer giving you any possible tax refund before April 5th. Usual reasons for this could, say, be bankruptcy, where any refund may have to go to a receiver, or where any tax overpaid would be needed to set against some other tax liability. Have you had form P2 notice of coding for this? Would really need to know more about you.
