Mileage Allowance?

My partner is self employed, and we were wondering what the going rate for him to charge for mileage (i.e pence per mile) when he is out visiting customers. Many Thanks

The HMRC agreed rate is 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p a mile thereafter. If he is VAT registered however he cannot use the mileage method to claim for vehicle running, but must use the full cost method.

My boyfriend gets 50p a mile from his work, this is quite a lot though. I think the average is around 40p. I suppose it depends how much he can get away with charging his customers before they go elsewhere...

I get 40 pence per mile, parking charges paid for and as I am out on company business food can be claimed for as long as it is not extortionate

You can charge your client whatever you like, it's up to you.

The Tax people put a limit of 40p per mile on amounts paid to employees. (the employee has to pay tax on anything above that).

If he is self employed, he can charge what he wants, but it is best to charge the Inland Revenue suggested amount which can be found on their website.

It depends on the car(van, truck) he's driving, and how much he thinks his customers will stand.
The amounts allowed by HMRC are not really relevant here.
If he wishes to include travelling time and costs in his charges he'll have to strike a balance between what the customer will tolerate and what he's prepared to suffer himself.
Most people charge half rate for travelling time, plus 拢1 to 拢2.50 per mile.

I wouldn' t have thought so. They only ask for your income and your partners income in the last tax year. So your daughter working PT wouldn't have any impact on your tax credit.
