Council tax bailiffs?

help plz ?? we have been financially skint as my partners been out of a job and my wages went on rent, bills, shopping and everything.

we didnt pay council tax.... they wrote letters, i tried phoning and explaining to them and tried to set up a payment plan thing but they wanted the whole lot

bailiff came round today when we werent in left a note sayig they wanted the whole 拢1700 in full or else theyd send round a removal van and that 拢345 would be added on for that.

surely they couldnt enter our property? would they get a entry thing from the court eventually?

do you think they would they take out car? (its sitting on driveway but it dosent have an egnine, but would they tow it away still?

what should we do? we cant pay that kind of money all upfront, yet i dont want to speak to or let the bailiff in our house. what should i do, this is not good just before xmas! i dont agree with paying council tax personally. (we rent and dont' own a house)

surely theyd just take the car first and look in the bonnet when theyve towed it away.

i think if they got in the house they would take anytihng, like our couch, microwave, we cant clear our house its unrealistic for us.

if i leave this they will come again im sure and then get an entry thing from the court. all the time adding on further charges.

should i phone them and arrange to pay 拢100 a month? but will they add on charges? i will pay 拢100 a month if its that alone but i dont want them to add charges.

as for paying for bin men services - there a complete joke! we have had bags sitting for weeks they wont take them. thats their job! thats what they get paid for. we shouldnt have to pay to get this done.

Yes of course they can enter your property. Yes of course they can take your car if it is worth anything. You will have to either pay up or let them take everything they can. You have clearly exhausted their patience in that they are not willing to listen to a payment plan offer from you.

You should sort these matters out sooner. The bailiff can enter for council tax matters. You can also go to jail for unpaid council tax. It should, however, go to court before the bailiff stage.

Prioritise your bills. Rent and council tax before all else. Then food, then electric and gas. Phones, cars etc are luxuries. Cancel them. Make an arrangement with the council.

Unfortunately yes they can enter your house....

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I know how it is, I myself owe money for Council Tax however I am paying a debt company called Scott&Co if I miss a payment wioth them then the bailliffs will be at my door too ;0(

Not nice especially at this time of year...

Get yourself down to the CAB soonest. Yes the bailiff can enter your house. Do ring them and offer a realistic payment plan. You say you rent your house unfortunately that is money for the landlord not the services you enjoy. I.E. the bin men etc

they cannot enter your house by force just remember that and the removal van is a empty threat.
as for the car when they see it as no engine they would leave it on the drive way.
they cannot take household effects they will only be intrested in taking articles of value so I suggest you remove all article of value from your home before they call again, when they are aware you have no articles of value they will mark the distress warrant "no effects" and after that you will be of no intrest to them because they cannot earn money from you so they should then leave you alone.
if you are on benefits the council are only allowed to take a token payment towards to the arrears but you should look at your finaces and you will probably find it will be better to go onto benefits then your council tax bill will not get any higher.
I dont usually tell people to go to the local CAB BUT IN YOUR CASE I WILL ADVISE YOU DO SO

edit the bailiffs cannot repeat cannot enter your house tkae no notice of that so called threat

First, do not allow the bailiffs into your house for any reason. Not to use the telephone, to discuss matters, or even use the bathroom. Once a bailiff has entered your house peaceably, they will have the future right to enter whenever they like, even if it involves breaking in. Make sure you keep all windows and doors locked, as climbing in through an open window counts as peacable entry.

It is surprising that they have not come to an agreement about paying in instalments. Make sure you keep records of any letters you send or phone calls you receive. Ultimately, should it get that far, the council can be forced by the court to accept payment by installments, particularly if you can prove that paying a lump sum would cause financial hardship. You will need evidence that you are willing to pay it, but can't afford the whole lot in one go.

Council tax should come first over other bills. You can go to prison for not paying it, and they don't care whether or not you have to eat. They want their money and theyare going to get it what ever it takes. I am not sure if declaring yourself as bankrupt would help. I am unsure of these legalities.

I work for them! Yes they WILL take your car!! its order from the court!! They are just trying to scare you though! you get loads of chances to pay!! they are tryin to get as much money out you as possible coz u r in so much debt!! take in proof of your income and everything you pay out and give them an offer!! There are private investigators and if your lying about income they will know and will not stop hassling you!! I have been with the baliffs and went into peoples houses and changed the locks so they cant get back in!! its evil!!
