Question about council tax (UK only)?

I live in the Worcestershire area and every year I dont have to pay council tax in the february march and april. Im not moaning about this as its nice not to have to pay but does anyone know why this happens? Ive had a look on the council web pages but it doesnt say!

Its just because of the way the bill is divided up. You pay a year's worth of tax in nine or ten instalments. They usually do it this way because it allows the council to have a less busy period around the time the next year's tax is being set and the bills are being produced. You may find the same thing happens with your water rates too for similar reasons.

You only pay council tax for ten months a year.Dont know the reason

the council tax bill should normally be spread over ten payment thus giving you two months and sometimes three without a payment

Where I live, Council Tax for the year is paid in ten instalments. It sounds like you pay your annual tax in nine monthly instalments.

Its all to do with the financial year ending in April. By doing what they do (as every council does) they can get all payments in and calculate income etc for the end of year audits. xxx

It's easier for the council to divide you council tax by 10 months. Febuary and March are to help folk pay off any money due to councils and to get paperwork and bills posted out for the next year.

You'll also find that your first payment is large that the next 9 months.

Take care Nessie

they spilt it up in to ten monthly payments

its just february and march that you dont have to pay. I think it is to give people a bit extra cash after christmas and at the end of the tax year.
You have the option to pay over 12 or 10 months. most people just pay over 10.

You will find that the council tax bill is divided up into ten payments, the first payment being larger then the other nine,
the nine remaining payments are of equal amounts finishing in January, this is useful for those who are a bit behind with their payments to catchup and also for the council to prepare the council tax bill for the following financial year which starts in April. the same applies to the water bill.

its only paid ten months of year here in sussex too. guess it makes instalments easier dividing by 10 than by 12 so when the have to work out portions of months etc it s easier dont know really.

I pay Council Tax in the first 10 months of the tax year. Usually you don't pay in February and March. If you think about it, you are being overcharged for 10 months before getting two months "free".

haha nope your meant to pay it every month u don't get a break lol, i wish, either keep it like that, just be careful it might be better to tell them, now, as they might catch u up with a huge bill, in the future,
