Tax code question?!?

I'm quite unsure about my tax code. First of all I'm student. I'm part time student here in England, but full time student in the Czech Republic. I do have just one job, which is just a part time one and I work at about 20 hours a week. My tax code is BR, which mean 22% is taken from a single pay. Is that right? What does the tax code depend on?

Your code does not depend on your yearly earnings, but on your personal circumstances.
Your code is not correct. At the very least you should be on 522L on a week one basis. This is what you need to do:
1. ask your employer for a form P46 - sign this to say its your only job. They should then put you on 522L week one which means you will have 拢100 per week tax free and then tax at 10% and 22%.
2. Go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and download for P86. Fill this in and send it to your tax office (your employer will give you the name and address). Depending on how long you are aiming to stay in the UK, you may be entitled to full personal allowances of 5225 this year in which case your tax code will be changed and you will receive a refund of tax overpaid through your wages. If you are not enetled to full personal allowance, HMRC will write to you at the end of the year (5 April) to find out your residence position.

your tax is basic rate.which is right.it all depends on factors like your age,if your single and how much you earn.

you should call into your local tax office and ask them to check if your code is correct. the code depends on your yearly earnings. it sounds like your tax code is incorrect, but don't take my word for true, ask those in the know i.e tax office.

Fengirl2 is as usual correct but I would add that when you leave the UK download form P85 - yes it is very strange that this form notifying the taxman that you are leaving has a lower number than the P86 which tells him you have arrived.

This will enable you to get any overpaid tax refunded.
