Can my tax code be BR because my p45 is from my Jobcentre? |
Ive started a job & gave my P45 to my new employer but tax code is BR (basic rate), why is this? because i had gaps in my employment for 6 years? because its from the jobcentre? is it true that if you had a gap of employment for 4 or years then you start as BR in your new job? thanks. BR is basic rate tax, not emergency code. What was the code on the P45 from the Benefit Office? If it was 522L, then your employer should use that code and you will get a refund of tax overpaid through your wages. BR means you pay emergency tax 40% in every pound you earn br is basic rate tax and is usually if this is a second job if this is your only job then you should have a tax code phone inland revenue helpline they are really quick at fixing any mistakes right away. if you are not meant to be on basic rate tax then you should get a refund as soon as it is sorted. good luck. B R is basic rate, and apparantly usually used as an emergency tax code, for people who have no p45, or as the correct tax code for people in a second job. WAITTTTTTTTTTTT, Fill a P46 & u b fine, ask yor employer for a P46 Simple, by the way, do you do more then 1 job ? at the moment Basic Rate tax isn't 40%, so relax on that score - the current basic rate is 22%. |
