How worried should I be about HM Revenue & Customs 'losing' 2 discs? Must I change bank, my name, address..?

What can I do myself to not fall victim to this? - I'm trying not to panic, but 25 million citizen's data on 2 disks.. there is a just under 50% chance I'd be on it

actually this is purely for the child benefit part of tax.
I have never been involved in that..
but thanks for the answers!!

Changing your password word would be a good idea, especially if it has your child's name or birth date in it. If anyone telephones you or e-mails you asking personal questions be real careful. It's happened to me before and I've just said 'I can't give those details over the phone, good bye'.

We all have to worry about this. Thieves have managed to steal huge amounts of personal data from banks and other businesses data bases. About all you can do is watch your bank statements and credit card bills carefully for any problems and immediately notify the issuer of the problem.

This is a serious matter. Thieves can buy personal information on millions of people for a few dollars.
