Taxing a car in the UK?

Hi there. I know that its a requirement to have insurance to tax a vehicle. I was wondering if I have an insurance policy which insures me to drive my main vehicle plus any other vehicle not registered in my name, would I be able to purchase a tax disk for another vehicle or does the insurance have to be for that specific vehicle?

Thanks in advance, Ash

It sounds to me a bit like you are trying to get car tax for someone else who doesn't have insurance.

I am fairyl certian (though not 100%) that the registered owner needs to have insurance on the car for road tax.

EDIT: Below has all the info...

No, must be for that vehicle.

Sorry but you need to have that vehicle insured aswell.
It's a bit of a pain, but some companies allow you to have a second vehicle on your main policy [I do this] works out cheeper than 2 seperate policies

Your insurance only allows you to drive another vehicle not in your name if that vehicle is insured by somebody else.
It must be named as an insured vehicle to be on the road in the first place.
You must have an insurance for a named vehicle to tax it.

what

Nah you need insurance on that car

Its a ***** I know

It must be for that vehicle, it is cross checked by the DVLA if you get your disc on-line, or by the guy in the post office, when you go for the disc there.

No nice try though
