What is the prospect of the AI market?

I am interested in the concept called singularity back when I was still in high school before I even heard of it. I am currently studying electrical engineering in my final year (already did the final exam) but can't find the 'spark' in the field. So now I am looking into the prospect of general AI in terms of its job market and research opportunities. I didn't choose this field in the first place because of the seemingly bleak prospect and empty promises that were tied to the AI field. Now I want to know if there are any changes in the AI sector in these past several years. Over the past few years I enjoyed reading articles on psychology and a bit about artificial neural architecture here and there but not the high level ones that require knowledge on advanced math/statistics (I don't think this makes any difference but I'll just put this little fact out in the open.) Your advise is appreciated.

I consider it still a developing field and would recommend that you continue your research in the area. Much of what I seen or read about are demonstration projects, I have seen a few applications of AI. Most still have a human in the loop and most only use AI principles as a small part of the system.
