Stimulus package? why so little money???

i was told that a married couple filling jointly will get $1200 + $300 per child. my hubby worked last yr and i didnt. he grossed $11,245 and we have one child and we filed jointly. i have used many online stimulus calculators and i was just wanting to know why they all say that we are only getting $900 all together. we dont owe ne back taxes or ne thing like that. every one else we know is getting more and we made less than them?

You were told wrongly. It's only $900 because your tax liability was $0, therefore you only qualify for the base rebate of $600 plus $300 for the child.

You only get more than the base $600 for a married couple if your tax liability is greater than $600. To get the max $1,200 base rebate, you'd need gross income in excess of $32,000 as a married couple with a child.

TFTP Report It

Be glad you are getting anything. By the original proposal, you wouldn't have gotten anything, it was a true rebate and only for people who paid income taxes, and you didn't. Congress decided to give $300 per person even to people who didn't pay any tax, so you'll get at least something.

$600 per person, or $1200 per couple filing a joint return, is the MAXIMUM you can get, not what everyone gets. You only get that much if you pay at least than much in federal income tax - you already got more out of the tax system than you put in.
