Could this company possibly given the wrong income tax for my mom?

Doing my mother's income tax. She's made the same salary this as well as last. But last year she got over 5k deducted; this year only $1600....now she owes several thousand in taxes...

Could her company possibly have given her the wrong tax information? She says she hasn't noticed a drop in her take home pay from last year.

Look at the 2 W-2s. Compare the box 1 with the box 2. If there is a huge dropoff, look at her paycheck stubs to see the amount of exemptions. If she went from s-2 to s-6, that could explain it.

If they deducted less, then her take-home pay would have gone up, not down.

Any error is possible. Check her paystubs. Total them yourself and compare them to the W-2.
