Can a person pay more personal taxes if they wanted too ?

Hypothetically, a person was grateful to the government and wanted to chip in some extra tango, would the government refuse the offer or accept and provide receipt ?

You can make a contritution to the Burearu of the Public Debt if you wish. And yes, it's deductible as a charitable contribution. Your check is your recepit. The BPD does pick up a few million $$$ each year this way from grateful folks -- mostly new legal immigrants and newly naturalized citizens.

Cool. TFTP. Report It

The gov recieved over 2 million last year.
Go ahead, send it in.

The new returns for 2008 will have a place to enter your donations.

The government accepts contributions.

What good do you think the receipt would do you? It's not deductible as a charitable contribution.
