What are advantages of high taxes?

Australia's top income tax rate is 47 percent, and the top corporate tax rate is 30 percent. I believe this is quite high although I'm not complaining....

One benefit is that living beyond 55 is luxury as the Government will look after you...that's what the Australian government does... Health care, aged care .... its mostly heavily subsidized.

Note:
This wont happen anymore if Rudd07 becomes Prime minister in 2 weeks...Interest rates will sore back up to the 22% + level... How ignorant are the Australian public thinking that we need to lose a stable government during ecomomic prosperity.

Advantages for whom? Because, if you're involved with the government, there's a ton.

Well, I guess everyone could work for the government...so.....low unemployment??

It curbs spending to stop the economy growing at a rate which it can't handle. Think the Japanes economic bubble.

And in theory the more tax we pay the more money gets put back into the country via the health service, education etc etc.

High taxation is advantageous to government bodies.. not to general public.
It is the duty of the government to reduce tax burden on public by reducing their expenses.

However high taxes means, dealing with better resources and Government can take up more and more projects to improve infrastructure, defense, and other developmental activities. Country's progress can be much faster.

More revenues to the taxing governement and more government spending. Unless the taxes are being raised to plug a deficit, a government will typically spend incoming revenues.

Ostensibly a high level of public services. Of the countries with very high taxes, about the only one that has it right is Denmark.
