Can I be held liable for an employee's taxes? |
I have an employee who apparently didn't pay his taxes in 2004 (I filed the appropriate paperwork on my end) - the IRS has just sent me a bill for his taxes - can I be held responsible? Did you get a bill or a garnishment? Marilyn, You can't be held liable for an employee's debts, tax or otherwise. If the creditor has an enforceable claim--assessed taxes or a judgment, the employee's wages can be levied upon but you would get a levy or garnishment, not the employee's bill. |
