Tariffs and Duty?

My cousin in US is giving me his laptop for free (aprox $800 value) and I just want to know whether there are any ways to avoid paying the $150 taxes. Would wrapping it in gift wrappers help? Btw, I live in canada, and NO, I can't just visit him.

He could send it to you and declare that there is no value, but if he insures it, that will flag it and will provide customs with the value. Put down a very small value since the item is used and pay less in tax. Thats the only way I can think of.
