Service tax problem? |
hi, i am a civil contractor, i have been awarded a Contract from IRCON INTERNATIONAL LTD (Prime contractor), as per law i am the sub contractor of IRCON INTERNATIONAL , BUT THEY ARE DEDUCTING 8.40 SERVICE TAX FROM US, PLEASE CLEARIFY ME CAN THEY DEDUCT SERVICE TAX FROM ME What country or state are we talking about here? I don't know of any service tax here in the US to deduct for, but other countries may have other taxes. Washington State has 8.4% sales tax. Your question is not very clear. It appears that the "service tax" you speak of may be a fee paid to IRCON rather than a tax. It would be helpful to know what country you are in. Most people answering are from the United States and form their responses accordingly. In India, at that particular time (3 years ago) there was no service tax on civil contractor. Therefore any deduction on account of Service Tax was illegal. For more details please refer to www.taxmanagementindia.com www.taxmanagementindia.com |
