Why do companies not hire people in wheel chairs and over the age of 65.? |
We are not ready to sit home and do nothing. Let us work if we want to. Social Security does not cover all are living expenses. Because the companies don't feel that handicapped persons or older persons can do the job of a younger healthy person. It's discrimination, which is illegal, but the companies can word their decision in terms that makes it legal not to have hired the handicapped person or older person. Many companies do not want to invest the time into training someone who is over 65 and may not have a lot of time to work at the company. Also, they may not have the facilities to handle someone in a wheel chair and cannot afford to install them. There are some companies, like Walmart, that do hire those over age 65. You can check with them for a job. higher risk in insuring them is probably a large part of it. Discrimination!! Generally those making the hiring decision are younger folks that "know" their grandmother is too old to do his or her job. Several companies are beginning to see the benefits of hiring older or handicapped worker but they are few. |
