If you work for the government, do you pay as much taxes as everyone else?



Stupid Question, or is there no tax at all.

Nope, they pay taxes just like the rest of us. The only thing that is different is that state and federal employees don't contribute to social security (they have their own retirement system), but they don't collect from it either. Nope, no employee discount. Most employees who were hired before 1983 do not pay social security tax but don't get the benefits either. Federal government employees are held to a higher standard for payment than the rest of the residents of the country.
Generally employees pay the same taxes as the rest of us. Their are some that do not pay into SS but they do not get the benefits. Some government employees can loose their job for not paying taxes on time.
