How to take a final number, and get the inital number, by removing 12.5 % tax.? |
I need a forumla to take the final number and work back to get the inital number before the 12.5 % tax was added. the situation is something like this x+12.5 percent of x=5000 so how do I find x Just take the end result and divide it by 1.125 to come up with the before tax number. If you have something that cost $1,000 the tax on it (using your 12.5%) would be $125, making the toal after tax cost being $1,125. Taking that final number and dividing it by 1.125( the original cost being the 1, and the tax being the .125) you arive at $1,000, which is the original cost before tax. Source(s): Can add math numbers in my head. Think of it this way...Your final price (say, 5000) was 112.5% of the original price. Set up the equation like so: 112.5/100=5000/x. Now cross-multiply: 112.5x=5000*100 112.5x=500000 x=4444.44.... Hope this helps. 5000 /1.125 = X X multiplied by 1 times the tax rate gives you the final number. Just go in reverse. Is this an inclusive tax or a an exclusive tax? The percentage will not be the same. |
