I work for a UK company and I want to pay UK tax (mad I know) but we want to move to Spain? |
How much time must I spend in the UK to carry on paying UK tax etc.... All my earnings will be be in GBP and paid into a UK account. The above answer states that you will pay tax as you work for a UK company even if abroad. This is incorrect as if you leave permanently the Inland Revenue will put you on an NT (no tax code) from the date you leave and tax will be paid in Spain so your question is valid. The significant point is if you are resident and if you are also ordinarily resident and this will depend on how long in the UK you stay per tax year. You will remain both resident and ordinarily resident if you stay in the UK for 183 days for a tax year or over 91 days over the course of 4 years, The Rolling Stones famously don't gig/stay for more than 91 days in the UK per year! However residency is a complex issue and special rules apply, depending on the country, and i'm sure if you spend 183 days in Spain their tax authorities would be taking an interest!
