I want to build my own website for .co.uk company.what's the best way to go about it?

I've seen the free ones on offer but you have to have things like .biz or.futureweb.co.uk on the end. I have a website name but not sure how to go about building one!

You can always set up a redirecting site that is free. I saw one once that was somthing like: testsite.com then that would redirect to a site that was made with a free site builder like googlepages.com.

I have a website made with googlepages: http://www.ebay.tracking.googlepages.com... It is REALLY guick and easy!

So what I mean is that I could create a url like ebay.tracking.com that would redirect to ebay.tracking.googlepages.com. All for free.

Does the company that you have your domain with provide web hosting? Usually there's an extra fee, although sometimes it's included with your first year's domain name. They'll give you something called your 'ftp' which is what you need for uploading your web pages.

Depending on what you want your site to do for you, you can start off by using programmes like Microsoft Word or Publisher to write your site. We wrote our first site using Publisher and people accessed it as an on-line brochure and contacted us to buy our services.

Now we use Adobe Go Live, which is very similar to Dreamweaver, another professional choice. Draw the structure of your site on paper first, before starting to write it. That way you can work out what pages you want/need and the levels in your site.

There are many options for adding in autoresponders and on-line shops at very low cost.

The way you write your site makes a big difference to how it's seen by the search engines. This is achieved through headings on your pages, your meta tags, key words and alt tags.

Please feel free to contact me for more information. Website writing doesn't have to be complicated to be effective. One of our sites comes up first or second on searches for its products and we're selling goods through its on-line shop.

Business Link also provide courses on writing and getting the best from your website.

Good luck!

It all depends on the level of technical knowledge you have as this can be a minefield.

There are several companies around such as Dreamweaver and Freewebs (they charge). There are also a number of web sites offering advice. Some of these give links to other sites and you are really able to research this subject very deeply, so while all this information is free - make the most of it.

Take your time, don't rush into anything you will come to regret in a week or two. Think what you really need. what level of support you want. What are your own capabilities in designing, html etc.,

Far better to give this a weeks thought than rush into something, be committed either by a contract or wasting time on a comparatively free service which will not meet your needs in the future. There are so many things to consider - will you need an email service from your web site to you, will you need an auto responder as your business grows? Don't fall into the temptation of putting a counter on your site - this is just too amateurish. Use the professional and free services of Alexa instead.

So do your own research, try to envisage your business and how it might grow over the next two years, and then you will be in more of a position to make an accurate decision.

Not for the moment but fur the future.

Wishing you the very best of luck - you are entering a fascinating and interesting world.
