When starting an at home business...?

When starting an at home business, what are some major things i have to do before actually starting business. Ex:getting permits and so forth

Go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

It all depends on your local laws and the type of business you are starting.

I would recommend contacting your county courthouse first. They should have some information. In my county, I had to apply for a business license (cost $5) and I had to run an ad in the local paper one day a week for like 3 weeks to make sure that no one else had the same name for their business in my area. It runs in the legal section of the newspaper. I suggest finding the least expensive newspaper.

I would also recommend going to Google and typing in the name of your state and IRS. This should produce a link that will help you find your state dept of revenue that will have some helpful links about starting a business.
