Serious eBay sellers???

I have a bunch of stuff I would like to get rid of but don't know where to take it. I have already donated to my local shelter but have gaming systems and other stuff I would like to try and sell on eBay. I am really good at buying but have no idea how to even get started selling. I need to know all the ins and outs of it. I don't want to have to itemize my taxes or anything that would be more of a hassle in my life than a help. I need the secrets of eBay selling. Please help me!

Go to the Getting Started section of ebay selling.

There is a lot to consider from pricing, shipping, listing, PayPal and more.

Also view the Community section / Discussion forums and you'll find the ebay sellers forum. There is a tremendous amount of valuable information there.

There is no need to itemize your taxes unless this turns into a real "business" in which case you'll need to start capturing sales and profits as a business.

make sure you have a PayPal account. It takes some practice to list things to 'sell' (the template). You'll need a digital camera to get good pics (pics sell best).

In the blocks for 'shipping' I always use US Postal System (not UPS or FedEx). It's simpler that way, and like with books, I can get 'media' rate for books on USPS.

Be careful how you list it for selling to overseas (I don't, stay strictly US only), because mailing something overseas requires customs and is a pain. I have sold to Canada, so that's not too bad.

Be sure to have some packing stuff (boxes, tape). Also with USPS, they have a bright green CONFIRMATION slip. It's an extra $.65 but well worth it, so no one can come back on you to say they didn't get it. Also I charge a $3 fee and that helps to cover my gas to go to the Post Office, packing material and my time to ship.

Be very honest about the condition of the item(s). And be as accurate with descriptions (measurements). I don't sell enough to claim it on my taxes.

Also, I start my stuff at $.99 and with rare exception, I just let it go as a regular auction. I have with expensive textbooks put a "Buy It Now" thing and that went very well (they're in demand). I'm fair with my prices.
